Get ready, Santa Fe—the Trails & Tales 5K Walk/Run is back on June 6, 2026, and this year promises to be our biggest and most meaningful event yet.
This isn’t just a walk or a run. It’s a movement. Every registration helps support CHRISTUS St. Vincent’s Reach Out and Read program, putting books directly into the hands of local children and helping families build lifelong literacy habits. Each participant helps provide 120 books to young readers—120 stories, 120 opportunities, and 120 reasons to join us on the trail.
After doubling participation and sponsor support last year, the momentum is stronger than ever. What started as a small but mighty idea has grown into a beloved community tradition—and we’re just getting started.
Join us for a morning filled with energy, connection, and fun for all ages. Expect music, food trucks, face painting, mini horses, and plenty of community spirit set against the backdrop of beautiful Villa Linda Park.

About the Reach Out and Read Program
The Reach Out and Read program at CHRISTUS St. Vincent is dedicated to building stronger families through literacy. Each year, the Foundation raises $20,000 to support this vital service, which provides books to children and empowers parents to read aloud and engage in their child’s educational development. At each well visit for children ages 6 months to 5 years, providers give a new book, and parents are encouraged to incorporate reading into daily routines. This shared experience not only strengthens the bond between parents and children but also sets the stage for lifelong learning.
In Northern New Mexico, where access to books is often limited, this program has made a lasting impact by increasing language development and promoting educational success for children, especially in low-income families. Studies show that families participating in Reach Out and Read are more likely to read with their children regularly, improving literacy skills and enhancing the healthcare experience.
